Plumas National Forest plans prescribed burns near South Park trails on Wednesday, Thursday, and possibly Sunday. These burns aim to reduce wildfire risk and maintain forest health.
Expect closures at the South Park Trailhead, also called the Barlow Trailhead, the Monument Trailhead, and other spots along Chandler Road.
The Cascades Trail will remain open from the Cascades Trailhead, and the Spanish Trailhead will stay accessible until burns resume. Trail access and riding conditions may change during these days.
Fire crews will use trails as control lines and anchor points for backburning. This approach tests the Fire-Hardened Trails concept, which designs trails to support wildfire management and community safety.
These burns help protect the forest and the communities around it. Plan your rides carefully, avoid active burn zones, and follow all closure signs and fire personnel instructions.
Your cooperation helps keep the Lost Sierra forest healthy and safe for everyone.
