Starting Monday, September 9, 2024, a series of road construction projects are set to impact commutes across Lassen and Plumas Counties. Local residents and travelers are advised to plan for delays and adjust their schedules accordingly.
Moon Lake Overlay Project on U.S. 395 in Lassen County
Caltrans District 2, in partnership with Hat Creek Construction & Materials, Inc., will begin the Moon Lake Overlay Project on U.S. 395 near Madeline, affecting traffic from 0.8 miles north to 3.8 miles north of Ash Valley Road. The $1.67 million project includes a thin hot mix asphalt overlay, concrete dig outs, shoulder backing, and the replacement of thermoplastic markings and striping. Construction will occur Monday through Friday, from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., with one-way traffic control and delays of up to 10 minutes. Motorists are encouraged to drive carefully, adhere to speed limits, and plan extra travel time. The project is expected to be completed by early October.
As work continues on the Cromberg Combined Rehabilitation Project along SR70, project officials note that you will need to plan for delays from just east of Gill Ranch Road to west of Grizzly Creek Bridge. You will encounter one-way traffic control through this stretch of the project Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Expect delays of up to 15 minutes. The $101 million project is expected to be completed by 2026.
If you’re traveling into the Oroville area, expect significant delays tomorrow, September 10, due to major construction work on the Cresta Bridge and Roadway Rehabilitation Project. Caltrans will close SR70 through the Feather River Canyon from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. as crews use cranes to place precast concrete beams for the new bridge deck at Bear Creek. This work is part of a $58.8 million project designed to raise the roadway by 5 feet and fortify the embankment against future flooding. There will be no detours available during the closure, and the project is expected to be completed by summer 2025.
