The Plumas-Sierra Fair theme contest is at its end, with over 80 submissions. The fair board asks for a theme unique to Plumas and Sierra counties that would be short and to the point. A few of the themes submitted included “Out of the Ashes,” “Sew it, Grow it, Show it,” and Blue Jeans and Country Dreams” One even quipped, naming the fair “It finally stopped snowing!”

The first theme for the Fair appeared in 1951 with “Lumbering Progress,” Many early themes promoted Plumas County and all it had to offer, but after the ’60s, things became more generic, including “Mountain Magic,” “The Old West at its Best,” and “I Can’t Bear to Miss the Fair.”
The board hopes to discover a more Nostalgic name, saying these themes have always been popular.

The theme contest winner will get international recognition, a week-long family pass to the Fair, and one Golden Ticket for the carnival.
