Pacific Gas and Electric Company (PG&E) has announced that summer water levels at Lake Almanor and Bucks Lake are projected to be higher than normal this year. This increase is attributed to high carryover storage and average precipitation, along with rapid snowmelt from spring.

During a virtual meeting, PG&E officials outlined their plans for water operations for the remainder of the year, emphasizing a balance between recreation, environmental needs, and power generation.

Specifically, Lake Almanor is expected to be approximately four feet above normal, with total precipitation reaching 130% of the average. The lake peaked at 4,492 feet over Memorial Day and is projected to drop to between 4,491 and 4,490 feet by July 4.

Bucks Lake has already reached its peak a month earlier than usual, sitting about two feet higher than average levels. It is anticipated to maintain levels around 5,153 to 5,152 feet through July 4.

PG&E advises the public to observe safety precautions when near water, including following warning signs, using the buddy system, and wearing life jackets.
