Park fire gains additional containment, now up to 22%, reported at 393,012 acres.

According to Cal Fire’s Thursday evening update, firefighters are preparing for unsettled weather this weekend, which could lead to the possibility of “erratic fire behavior” due to outflow winds.

Thunderstorms have been forecasted to begin Friday evening and continue into Saturday.

An area of the fire that remains a critical area of concern is the Mill Creek drainage, where much of the fire’s heat and activity remains around the 260-mile perimeter of the fire. The steep lava rock terrain of this area, mixed with heavy timber, remains a challenge. Aircraft is unable to access the drainage and firefighters are utilizing thermal imaging to see the fire and its activity.

Now on day 9 of the Park Fire, has consumed over 92,000 acres of Forest Service lands and over 300,000 acres on state and private lands.

Road closures remain in place as the weekend is here due to the Park Fire.

State Route 32 is closed from Platt Mountain Road (Butte County) to State Route 36 (Tehama County) and State Route 36 remains closed from just west of Manton Road (Tehama County) to State Route 89 (Plumas County) due to the #ParkFire. State Route 89 through Lassen Volcanic National Park is closed and only open as an evacuation route.

The incident command team holds daily briefings on the Park fire online and through social channels at 8 a.m. and 3 p.m.
