A new sawmill in the Indian Valley opens next week. The mill was a vision of the Sierra institute and a local family owned logging company, J&C Enterprises. The new mill is located at the Sierra Institute’s restored Indian Valley Wood Utilization Campus in Crescent Mills. The team recognized that many of the trees damaged by the fire would be rejected at larger sawmills in the area and collaborated and pieced together the mill with equipment gathered from across the nation and world. With salvaged timber from Dixie Fire clean up and forest restoration efforts, it will be able to produce dimensional lumber for rebuilding homes and other structures throughout the area. You can attend the mills grand opening ceremony with a ribbon cutting on May 18th from 1 to 4pm.
