Mudslide Reduces Traffic on HWY 49

Another major mudslide reduces traffic on highway 49 south of Downieville. The California Highway Patrol notified the Sierra county Sheriff’s Office of the slide on Depot Hill between the North Yuba River and Lager Beer Point that has blacked the southbound lane. Cal-Trans will have the stretch of the roadway down to one-lane traffic control.

With the heavily saturated ground, slides are expected to be a continual challenge; use caution when traveling along the region’s highways.
