The winter storm arrived slower than expected, yet you can continue to plan for more snow to arrive through Wednesday, with the heaviest snowfall expected this evening. The Reno National Weather Service says mountain travel is highly discouraged and will be dangerous heading into the evening as snow increases coupled with high winds causing periods of whiteouts. If you must travel, carry an emergency kit, warm blankets, a shovel, and food if you get stuck.
In the lower elevations, snow returns later this afternoon and overnight. You should expect a break in the late morning hours to run errands and clear driveways.
By Wednesday evening, the storm will leave, but colder temperatures will remain at 10 to 15 degrees below average.
