Arson to blame for June 13th fire at Susanville Parkview Garden Apartments.
Susanville Fire Department (SFD) says it responded to a multi-family structure fire at the Parkview Garden Apartments around 5:30 that evening. At the time, it was unknown if everyone was out of the building, as the apartment occupants were known to be disabled. Entry was made into the burning apartment. Firefighters made an aggressive attack and advanced the hose line down the hallway, extinguishing fire in the kitchen and both bedrooms.
A primary search of the apartment revealed those inside had made it out safely. Due to the aggressive fire attack, the damage was limited to minor smoke damage in the other six apartments. Occupants were allowed to return to their homes.
Once the overhaul was completed, a fire investigation began, where investigators revealed that 65-year-old Matthew Davis had confessed to starting the fire. Davis was arrested and booked into the Lassen County Jail on charges of arson and being under the influence of a controlled substance.
It is unknown his relation to the occupants of the apartment he burned down.
No injuries resulted from the fire.
