Major Project Coming to SR70, Caltrans Hosts Open House

Caltrans and contractors will host a community open house to discuss a significant project to State Route 70 between Cromberg and East Portola.

Caltrans says the 90 million dollar project is expected to last three seasons starting this fall and will rehabilitate 16 miles of the highway. Studies found that only 10% of the current roadway is left in good condition, and maintenance efforts are no longer viable.

The project will include rehabilitating the road, repairing and replacing culverts for drainage, and upgrading guard and bridge rails.
These improvements are expected to extend the pavement life for another 20 years once complete.
