The city of Loyalton remains under a boil water notice after being advised on October 4th. Mayor Jackson confirmed the town is still waiting on negative test results to come back from a testing lab in Reno.
Families for a week have had to boil all water used for consumption or bottled water. The town has been providing free cases to residents, with a new shipment arriving just yesterday. If you need bottled water, you can pick points up at the Skilled Nursing Facility parking lot and elementary school. If you need water, you are asked to take only what is required; seniors and the medically vulnerable are of priority.
The notice went into effect on the 4th due to scheduled repair work for the city’s main water line leak that has been ongoing for weeks. Contractors had to shut off the water to a few streets between 7 am and 5 pm to complete repairs that were expected to have been wrapped up by Friday. Concern for bacteria in the water is common when water lines are shut off for long periods. Out of an abundance of caution, Loyalton was placed on the notice, yet the warning will be lifted once negative results are back.
