On Wednesday, November 29, the Sierra County Sheriff’s Office was alerted by the Principal of the High School about a potential sexual assault incident on campus. A following investigation revealed disturbing allegations that High School teacher Emma Shaffer was involved in a sexual relationship with a student.

After more extensive investigations and interviews, the Sierra County Sheriff’s Office obtained an arrest warrant that the Sierra County District Attorney verified, and on November 30, a Sierra County Superior Court Judge issued the arrest warrant.

Emma Shaffer was taken into custod Friday and booked into the Nevada County Jail. In light of the ongoing investigation, the Sierra County District Attorney anticipates additional charges to be filed.

This investigation remains active, and the Sierra County Sheriff’s Office says they are collaborating closely with the Sierra-Plumas Joint Unified School District and the Loyalton High School Administration Staff.

Both the school staff and the sheriff’s office are urging parents/guardians, as well as former or current students, to come forward with any information pertinent to this investigation or potential additional victims.

The Sierra County Sheriff’s Office and the school district are committed to ensuring the safety and well-being of the students, and they encourage the community’s cooperation in this matter. Further updates will be provided as the investigation unfolds.
