Lassen National Forest will suspend free personal firewood-cutting permits in the new year. Current permits are valid through December 31st, but the forest service with pause the sale of new permits through January 15th to determine a new per cord fee. The Forest Service began offering free permits in response to hardships caused by the pandemic and continued to offer the permits free as COVID impacts stretched into the past few years. No mailed-in permit applications will be accepted as there is not enough turnaround time, but you can visit one of the district ranger’s offices to pick yours up.
All woodcutting regulations still apply and are valid within permitted areas of the Lassen National Forest.
