Lassen Volcanic NP Issues Travel Warning

Lassen’s Volcanic National Park is issuing a travel warning for all backpackers entering the park this week. Starting today, a scheduled road construction project is set to begin at Sulphur Works, which will bring potential traffic delays and road closures impacting your journey.

Beginning at 8:00 AM, the road to Sulphur Works will temporarily shut down for all traffic. There will be a brief opening from 12:00 NOON to 1:00 PM. However, it will close again from 1:00 to 5:00 p.m. These intermittent closures are crucial for the safety of construction crews and park visitors.

For backpackers planning their trip during this period, the park service says planning is essential. It is advised that you time your arrival by planning your park entry and exit to align with the specified road closure hours. Also, prepare for your visit beforehand by securing your necessary wilderness permits online for hassle-free entry into the Park’s Wilderness.
