Through grants, the Lassen County Sheriff’s office has been able to add a new sno-cat to its fleet.
The department conducts numerous rescues in the county’s snowy mountainous conditions as well as maintains a radio communications network that supports law enforcement response around the 4800 square miles of the county. The vehicle they previously had was not suitable for the terrain, and a lighter narrow vehicle was needed to meet the most extreme conditions.
Lassen County O.E.S worked with the sheriff’s office to submit a grant application to Cal-OES on behalf of the county, later awarded that grant to purchase the new sno-cat.
The new addition increases staff safety and expands the department’s operational capabilities.
