The County Jail will be able to better house suicidal inmates with the construction of a second padded safety cell. Public works along with the Sheriffs Department will have the second cell constructed by Kirack Construction Company. The existing holding cell does not meet the State Board of Corrections guidelines and will also need new construction. Work will include expanding the existing cell bigger with padded walls and a joining bathroom with safety standards. Commissioner Albough asked Captain Mcgarva what the county plans to do with the housed inmates already in the existing cell for the six week construction period. Mcgarva states they have staff prepared for medical personnel, blankets and other rooms ready. In addition to these improvements and a second cell the Sheriffs department can house more in need.
