Lassen College Clears Hundreds of Thousands of Dollars in Student Debt

Lassen College Clears hundreds of thousands of dollars in student debt. For over 600 current and former students, LCC has cleared all their unpaid debts incurred during the pandemic from the spring of 2020 to the fall of 2022.

The debt clearance was made possible through a federal COVID-19 relief program, through the CARES Act Higher Education Emergency Relief Fund. The college said that after closely monitoring students’ financial needs, the board chose to use a large portion of the awarded funds to help students in debt.

Over 330,000 dollars was paid off. The unsettled debt had prevented some students from enrolling. Yet, Annika Peacock, LCC’s Outreach Coordinator, says, “all holds on enrollment for debts incurred between 2020 and 2022 have been lifted, and “Students who have had their debts repaid are invited to re-enroll.

Lassen College is hosting a re-enrollment workshop between 9 AM and 2 PM on January 11. If you wish to re-enroll at the college after an absence of one or more semesters, you can receive a bookstore voucher of $500 for books, school supplies, and meals in the Cougar Café.

If you have questions about the one-time debt relief, you can call the Financial Aid Office at 530-250-8849.
