Today the Lassen board of supervisors meet for their second gathering for the month after seating the newly elected supervisors for districts 3 and 5.

The board will discuss the county’s updated fire hazard severity zones as CALFIRE has updated the map to current conditions. The public works department will also ask the board to approve a bid for cell improvements to the Adult Detention Facility Safety Project to Michael Kirack Construction, Inc., for $273,300. The sheriff’s department will also ask the board for approval to create a new position within the department. It has been found by custody staff that there is a need for a full-time position to coordinate and supervise laundry, property, and commissary operations. Custody staff currently share these responsibilities within the jail and cannot adequately supervise inmate workers.

You can learn more about these items by attending as the supervisors meet at 9 am at their chambers on Nevada street in Susanville. You can find the full agenda by visiting lassencounty.org.

The Plumas board of supervisors also meet at 10 am in the Quincy courthouse. The board will have a relatively light agenda to discuss. You can view the complete list of items at plumascounty.us.

Additionally, if you are in Plumas county, you will have the opportunity to learn more about the county’s updated fire severity zone map this evening. You can attend that meeting from 6 to 8 p.m. in the Mineral Building at the Plumas Sierra County Fairgrounds. The state fire marshal’s office will seek your continued input for all state responsibility areas through Feb. 3.

Experts and stakeholders have worked on updates to the state’s map to ensure that it accurately reflects today’s reality for wildfire hazards throughout the state. You can visit the State Fire Marshall’s website to learn more.
