Severe weather over the weekend left hundreds without power, and many are still in the dark this morning. Plumas Sierra Rural Electric (PSREC) reports small, localized outages in its service territory, with repair crews actively addressing the issues. However, the utility emphasizes the need for preparedness due to the possibility of continued outages amid persistent winter weather. The prolonged outages prompted a warming center to be open last evening in the Portola Memorial Hall; those still in the cold are to follow updates from Plumas Office of Emergency Services on the status of the warming center as The county continues to assess needs.
Lassen Municipal Utility District faced similar challenges over the weekend, particularly in the Eagle Lake and Lake Forest areas, where homes experienced prolonged power outages. Fortunately, by late Saturday evening, all homes had their power restored.
As the potent storm exits the region, winds are calming, and light showers are tapering off. A welcomed break is anticipated this week, providing an opportunity for many to recover and clean up the aftermath of the severe weather.
This includes the roadways where I-80 continues to be closed this morning for a third day in a row with no estimated time of re-opening.
Also taking a hit are Plumas County schools, where the Unified School District has said that due to the lingering conditions from the weekend storm, several schools will be on a two-hour delay starting today. These include:
Chester’s Elementary and Junior Senior High School, Greenville Elementary and High School
Quincy Junior Senior High
Quincy Elementary Pioneer Campus
Quincy Elementary Alder Campus
Plumas County Community School
And FRC- if you cannot get to campus safely, the college asks you to contact your instructor
Due to the power outage in Portola and surrounding communities and the need to complete snow removal on the Portola campuses, local schools will be closed today. They are: C Roy Carmichael Elementary
Portola Junior Senior High School
Jim Beckwourth High School
All Susanville and Lassen County schools are on time this morning.
