A haystack caught fire this weekend as temperatures scorched with triple-digit heat, CAL FIRE saying expect to see smoke over the next few days.

CAL FIRE’s Lassen Modoc Unit says their crew, along with Resources from Janesville and Susan River Fire Districts and Standish-Litchfield Fire Department, responded to the burning pile in Standish overnight on Saturday. Units remained on scene throughout yesterday morning and into the day to monitor the smoldering pile. The Lassen Modoc unit says you will continue to see smoke from Highway 395 over the next several days as the stack was significant.

Crews will continue to monitor the pile until out. What caused the fire has not been released.

Calfire had suspended all burn permits throughout LAssen Plumas and Modoc counties as of Saturday, July 15th, as fire danger has increased with the arrival of summer heat.
