Visitors planning a trip to Golden Trout Campground will need to make other plans, as the campground is closing for the remainder of the 2026 recreation season beginning Sunday afternoon.
The U.S. Forest Service announced that Golden Trout Campground and a section of Forest Road 22N24, between Forest Roads 21N18Y and 20N09, will close at 2 p.m. on Sunday, August 2, to allow construction crews to begin the Golden Trout Bridge Replacement Project.
Construction is scheduled to begin Monday. During the project, the existing bridge will be removed, supporting structures replaced, and a new bridge installed. Because the road will be blocked throughout construction, the campground will not be accessible.
Forest officials say the closure is necessary to protect the safety of the public, contractors, and employees working in the area.
The bridge replacement was originally expected to begin in late spring and continue through the summer, but project delays allowed the campground to remain open for most of the season. With construction now underway, the campground will remain closed for the rest of the summer. Reopening in 2027 will depend on when the project is completed.
The Forest Service says it will announce when construction is finished and both Golden Trout Campground and Forest Road 22N24 reopen to the public.
The closure is authorized under Closure Order No. 05-11-03-26-01. Violating the order may result in fines of up to $5,000 for individuals or $10,000 for organizations, imprisonment for up to six months, or both.
