Motorists traveling on State Route 299 east of Burney should prepare for significant delays beginning Monday, Aug. 3, as Caltrans continues work on the Pit One Grade Rockfall Mitigation Project.
According to Caltrans District 2, crews will begin installing permanent rockfall mitigation cabling and drapery systems on the slope above the highway using a helicopter. The work will require extended traffic holds to protect both motorists and construction crews.
Traffic delays are expected as follows:
Monday, Aug. 3: Up to 30-minute delays from 6:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Tuesday through Thursday: Up to 70-minute delays from 6:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Friday: Up to 30-minute delays from 6:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Caltrans said the extended traffic holds are expected to continue for approximately three weeks.
Drivers are encouraged to plan for extra travel time, consider alternate routes when possible, reduce speeds through the work zone, and remain alert for construction crews and equipment.
