The California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation (CDCR) has launched its annual “Operation Boo” campaign aimed at enhancing safety as families prepare for Halloween. With children soon to be out trick-or-treating, CDCR is sharing practical tips to help families plan for a safe Halloween night.
This week, CDCR parole agents are posting safety reminders on social media, including Facebook, Instagram, and X, and have published a parents’ guide on the 2024 Operation Boo webpage. The guide offers tips for parents to help keep kids safe while trick-or-treating.
As part of the campaign, CDCR parole agents, along with local law enforcement, will conduct checks on Halloween night to ensure that supervised sex offenders adhere to specific restrictions, such as avoiding any contact with minors. Last year, the campaign saw over 97 percent of these individuals in compliance.
For families, this program provides an added layer of reassurance alongside other common safety practices, like checking treats and staying in well-lit areas. With Operation Boo, CDCR aims to make Halloween a little safer for everyone.
