Fire teams respond to a call Sunday, June 18th, to a structure fire in Portola at Rocky Point Road. Dispatch received a 911 call reporting a fully engulfed structure fire at 76645 Rocky Point Road in Portola.
Fire Personnel from Beckwourth, Eastern Plumas, Sierra Valley, and Graeagle responded to the call and contained the fire of connected cabins, and evacuated the residents. One resident was transported to Eastern Plumas Health Care for medical care.
One resident was missing who lived in the apartment that received the most damage. With a thorough investigation, it was determined that the missing resident started the fire.
The resident, identified as Dale CLutter, age 63, from Portola, was arrested for arson and under the influence of a controlled substance—at Plumas County Correctional Facility with a bail of 10,000.
Investigators from Cal Fire will investigate the fire’s cause and origin. Red Cross responded to the scene and will access the needs of the displaced victims.
