Debris Burn Escapes Control in Janesville Causing Damage and Citing Violations

CAL FIRE Lassen-Modoc Unit assisted the Janesville Fire District with an escaped debris burn that occurred in Janesville yesterday afternoon. A person who was burning piles, lost control of the fire and it quickly spread through the vegetation, destroying a small shed, an older large barn, numerous vehicles, and damaging a travel trailer. The responsible party was cited for violating the new Lassen County Ordinance 9.17.030 which requires property owners to obtain a valid burn permit prior to burning. Janesville Fire District was assisted by CAL FIRE Lassen-Modoc Unitt, Milford Volunteer Fire Dept, California Correctional Center and SUSAN RIVER FIRE District
As a reminder, burn permits are required for outdoor burning as of May 1, 2025, you can obtain a burn permit at https://www.fire.ca.gov/burnpermit.
