Update 10:30a.m. : 395 has been re-opened. Drive with caution, winds are still blowing
Susanville CHP is waiting to hear from Caltrans on the re-opening of HWY 395. They are expecting to try opening the roadway by 10:30. Plows are currently out and clearing the road. Yet high winds are blowing snow across the roadway. According to the Susanville CHP Public Information Officer these conditions are causing 5 second whiteout delays that are a major hazard to drivers. When conditions allow and the highway is clear then it will be re-opened. Be aware CHP is anticipating escorting vehicles through the highway to reduce incidents. There are multiple cars still abandoned on the highway from yesterday after they lost control and slid off the roadway.
Updates will be made available here and on the Susanville CHP and Caltrans District 2 social media pages.
