In a move to enhance fire safety and simplify outdoor burning regulations, the Lassen County Board of Supervisors unanimously approved an updated Fire Warden Resolution, modernizing the permitting process and expanding the Fire Warden’s authority. This update marks the first significant change since the original 1983 version and aims to create uniformity across the county’s varied fire protection jurisdictions.
Fire Warden Chief Eric Erwing stated the new resolution will “streamline” and “formalize” what is already being done within each district.
Under the updated system, Ewing has clearer authority to issue and suspend burn permits, whether you are in the State responsibility area or the local responsibility area, especially during periods of extreme fire danger. This will help to reduce the risk of wildfires, a growing concern in Lassen due to increasingly dry conditions.
For those interested in more details, the updated regulations are now part of Chapter 9.17 of the Lassen County Code, ensuring that all areas under local responsibility adhere to the same outdoor burning rules. Violators of the new ordinance could face fines, making compliance essential for public safety.
You can get your burn permit online or by visiting any Calfire Station.
