Lassen County Housing and Grants Division responds to the community concerns over a supportive housing complex for the unhoused on mesa street in Susanville in response to widespread conflict over social media.
Movement on the project has been in the spotlight recently. The city has also been addressing homelessness head-on and partnering with the county to work towards a permanent supportive housing complex. Although these plans have been in place for a few years, the community has felt that the dealings have been behind too many closed doors with little community input. The county supervisors in December approved declaring the Mesa street site exempt from the Surplus Land Act for affordable housing. However, the site is only an initial step to exploring the possibility of developing affordable housing there. Public hearings and more meetings would be necessary before plans for the site could move forward.
