County Announces Seasonal Road Closure

As an official marker that winter has arrived, Gold Lakes Highway has been closed.

The Sierra and Plumas County Road Departments made the closure effective as of yesterday. With the recent snowfall, the route that provides an alternative passage between 49 and 89 between Graeagle and Bassetts becomes too difficult to pass as the roadway is unmaintained in the winter by snow plows.

The highway transitions to an Over Snow Use highway until the spring melts. Last year, following the historic winter, the roads department was not able to reopen the highway until mid-June, as it sat under nearly 12 feet of snow in May.
