Authorities have successfully located the inmate who walked away from Sugar Pine Conservation Camp.
According to CDCR officials, the convicted robber, who departed the camp without authorization, was discovered in Redding just 24 hours later in an update shared yesterday. He has been transported to the Sierra Conservation Center, where he will return to CDCR custody. The matter will be forwarded to the Shasta County District Attorney for potential escape charges.
Identified as 31-year-old Joseph Stewart, has been incarcerated since June of the previous year in Marin County. He is serving a ten-year sentence for second-degree robbery.
Sugar Pine Conservation Camp is jointly managed by CDCR and CAL FIRE. Stewart was part of the camp efforts to assist in fire suppression efforts across Shasta County and the state. Also, contributing to flood responses, conservation initiatives, and various community service projects.
