Congressman Kevin Kiley includes the Loyalton water infrastructure project and broadband expansion to Plumas Sierra Rural Co-op as part of requests for federal funding through this year’s budget process.
The congressman elected to the state’s new District 3, which includes Plumas and Sierra counties, is making his key priorities strengthening Fire suppression and increasing water storage.
Kiley said, “The projects I am advocating for would significantly bolster fire-fighting capabilities across the Tahoe region and Eastern Sierras, ensure access to safe drinking water, construct rural broadband, and enhance emergency services. He added he aims “to return taxpayer dollars” back into the community “to fund projects vital to…health, safety, and welfare.”
The congressman has requested 5 million for the City of Loyalton to replace the deteriorating main water line and another 4.2 million to PSREC to build the middle and last-mile fiber optic networks to bring broadband to rural residents in the A-15 and Valley Ranch areas.
As part of the annual federal budget process, Members of Congress are authorized to submit up to 15 projects to receive consideration for federal funding. Of the numerous requests received, Kiley advanced these two projects along with seven others. The final six will be announced Monday, then head to the Appropriations Committee for consideration. If the federal budget passes, funds for the projects will be dispersed.
