ALTURAS POLICE DEPARTMENT
MARC MULLER
CHIEF OF POLICE
PRESS RELEASE
JANUARY 7, 2025
It has come to our attention that there was a possible threat made via Facebook that has become a source of concern for local parents with children at Modoc Joint Unified School District. The post was made by a resident of Shasta County and has been investigated by the Alturas Police Department and the Modoc County Sheriff’s Office. Through this investigation, we have learned that the individual was referencing an incident that had occurred in Shasta County. The case was released to the Shasta County Sheriff’s Office by the Modoc County Sheriff’s Office. At this time, given the information gathered, it is not the belief of the Alturas Police Department that there is an active threat to the schools within our jurisdiction. The Alturas Police Department wants to ensure parents that our School Resource Officer will be on campus and patrolling within the schools. Our officers will be increasing patrols around the schools in order to ensure the safety and well-being of the students. The schools and our officers will remain vigilant to individuals coming onto campuses. If you have any questions, please feel free to reach out to your local agencies.
