Like with most holidays the CA Highway Patrol rolls out a period of maximum enforcement, and this Memorial Day the department will be focusing on seatbelt safety. From 6 pm today to midnight on Monday CHP will be in full force to ensure the safety of you and other travelers for the holiday on the roadways. This MEP also coincides with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s “Click it or Ticket” campaign as two-thirds of all people killed in collisions last Memorial Day weekend were not wearing their seatbelts. CHP will also be monitoring for driving under the influence this weekend as nearly 1000 people were arrested last year as well during the 72-hour MEP.
