The incarcerated in state prisons will soon have longer visitation weekends as the CA Dept of Corrections expands in-person visits to three days. The move aligns with the legislature’s latest goals and is set to begin on July 7th. The expansion will also include free transportation statewide for families to meet the demand at busier institutions and provide more opportunities for visitation.

CDCR Secretary Jeff Macomber said the intention is to enhance “public safety by promoting successful community reintegration.”

Also set to end on July 7th are weekend video visits at adult institutions statewide. The pandemic had launched the start of video visitation, intended for safe visitation temporarily.
The expansion has cost over 20 million dollars, approved by the legislature in August of 2021.
