A Campfire sparks a blaze near Keddie. Late Thursday evening, fire crews were called to a fire burning near SR 70 and Keddie in the Mt Hough Ranger District of the Plumas National Forest. The blaze shut down SR70 between Quincy and the Greenville Wye, for about an hour. Six engines, one hotshot crew, one hand crew, and fire leadership responded, knocking out the flames by midnight that evening.
The National Forest says the blaze is suspected to have been human-caused by a campfire along a hiking trail in the area and reminds all visitors to douse your fires with gallons of water. Stating extra care is needed to prevent severe wildfires.
In recent weeks, Plumas National Forest firefighters have responded to several small fires in the area, including the Keddie Fire.
As you head into the forest to camp, the forest service reminds you that you can help ensure your campfire is safe by making sure they are built within a fire ring and in an area clear of debris, is never left unattended, and is dead-out and cold to the touch before leaving. Also, secure your trailer chains and properly inflated tires while driving through the forest to avoid throwing a spark.
