The CalVada History Museum is opening this weekend at its new location on Main Street in Cedarville, showcasing the shared history of eastern Modoc County, California, and western Washoe County, Nevada. Becky Hall, a museum volunteer, emphasized the mission of the CalVada History Foundation to preserve the region’s history for future generations and to serve as a visitor center for travelers.
The museum has relocated to 521 Main Street, previously a real estate office, which offers more space and improved accessibility for both locals and visitors. After months of preparation, volunteers have set up exhibits highlighting the area’s natural history, Native American culture, and pioneer life, along with personal artifacts like yearbooks and diplomas that reflect the community’s heritage.
A significant focus on tourism is also emerging, with plans to provide maps, ghost tour information, and other resources for travelers exploring the scenic areas of northeast California and northwest Nevada. Founded in 2021 and operated by volunteers, the nonprofit organization relies on community support for its operations.
The opening weekend is expected to feature refreshments and opportunities to meet the volunteers. For more information or to get involved, the CalVada History Foundation is active on social media platforms such as Facebook and TikTok. The museum will be open this weekend for tours and discussions, with hours expected to expand as the tourist season progresses.
