Restoration efforts on State Route 70 are progressing, but the highway remains closed to through traffic.
Two slides between Belden and Twain have closed the highway from the Greenville wye to Jarbo gap since early January. At the slide location west of Rush creek, Caltrans says they have completed rock scaling and are continuing to remove material. For the second slide east of Belden, crews have been installing railing and removing slide debris, but it remains active. Safety assessments are ongoing to assess tree removal above the slope for continued restoration efforts.
While there is no estimated time to open the highway, Caltrans and the contractor are working on clearing the roadway, and once safe for travel will open to one-way traffic control. Mid-week operations may slow or cause more slide activity with incoming winter weather conditions. You will need to continue to choose other routes around the closure.
