Caltrans workers continue improving safety on State Route 299 near Pit One Grade in Shasta County. The Pit One Grade Rockfall Mitigation Project aims to reduce the risk of falling rocks and debris on the highway.
Crews install permanent rockfall barriers, such as drapery and cable systems. They also enhance drainage and repair the roadway to prevent future hazards.
Extended traffic holds planned for late August and early September have ended. One-way traffic controls remain in some spots, causing delays up to 15 minutes.
Drivers should plan extra travel time, obey traffic signs, and watch for workers and equipment. Checking current road conditions before traveling helps avoid surprises as work and traffic controls can change.
The Pit One Grade project remains active among Caltrans District 2’s ongoing efforts to keep roads safe.
