What seems to be on repeat, SR 70 through the Feather River Canyon remains closed from the Greenville wye to Jarbo gap. Multiple slides have occurred through the 50-mile stretch of highway since January storms brought the hillside down in two locations. Since then, six more slides have occurred.
Caltrans says, “The most active slide is at Post Mile 15, which has blocked the roadway completely.”
Due to the recent stretch of winter weather, the contracted surveyor Geotech has revisited these sites to re-evaluate the stability of the slides. Caltrans crews and contractors are waiting for consistent dry weather to make progress on these slides. The weather has resulted in extreme danger in attempting to move material.
There remains no estimated time on when State Route 70 will be reopened. Caltrans thanks the community for your patience and says updates will be provided.
