The California Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) has announced enhancements to its online services for commercial drivers, aiming to streamline processes and reduce wait times. The upgrades include improvements to the online commercial driver’s license (CDL) renewal service, as well as enhancements to the CDL skills testing experience.
The DMV has modernized the skills test, using tablets for exam administration, resulting in a 9% increase in tests given. Additionally, eligible CDL holders can now renew their licenses online, reducing the need for in-person visits. The DMV’s digital transformation under the Newsom Administration has led to increased online services, faster transaction times, and improved customer experiences.
The focus on commercial drivers recognizes their importance to California’s economy, facilitating the movement of goods and services. The DMV’s efforts also extend to occupational licensees, providing more online opportunities for document submission.
The overall goal is to encourage customers to use online services before visiting a physical office or kiosk.
