In a significant effort to prepare for the Old Mill Fuel Reduction Project along the Susan River, employees from the CALFIRE Lassen Modoc Unit recently removed more than 7,000 pounds of garbage from the dense overgrowth in the area.

The cleanup operation involved loading the collected trash into trucks, which were then hauled to the local landfill. This effort is part of an ongoing initiative to reduce fire hazards and improve environmental conditions in the region.

Due to the current conditions, the use of live fire in the area will continue to be postponed. CALFIRE officials emphasized that safety remains a top priority, and they will only proceed with controlled burns when conditions are deemed appropriate.

The Old Mill Fuel Reduction Project is crucial for minimizing the risk of wildfires and ensuring the safety of the local community. By clearing out debris and reducing fuel loads, CALFIRE aims to create a more fire-resilient landscape.

Residents are encouraged to stay informed about future updates and ongoing efforts related to fire prevention and community safety initiatives.
