Up to 10 million dollars is up for grabs to help support conservation efforts for CA landowners. CAL FIRE has opened the Forest Legacy Grant program to conserve privately owned forestland statewide. This funding aims to promote sustainable forest practices, encourage long-term stewardship, and safeguard vital natural resources.
The Forest Legacy Grants allow landowners to protect their forests while contributing to broader environmental goals. The state’s fire agency says forests are crucial in carbon sequestration, biodiversity conservation, and watershed protection.
If interested, you should apply by submitting a pre-application by April 16 and completing the full application once invited by May 7th. The full application period closes on June 7.
CAL FIRE staff will conduct field visits to potential project properties to assess their suitability for grant funding. All grant-funded work must be completed by June 30, 2028.
