Plumas County Sheriff’s office confirms a body was found in the rubble of the home fire outside of Quincy on Monday.

An active investigation with the state’s fire marshall, Quincy fire, and Sheriff’s office led to the discovery of human remains among the debris where the home once stood.

At the time of the fire and shortly following, deputies had spoken to several neighbors and friends of the person living in the home, who all were unable to locate the individual who remains missing. It may be believed the body found in the rubble is that of the home’s occupant, yet the Sheriff’s office has yet to confirm pending an autopsy to identify the remains and determine the cause of death.

The decedent’s and occupant’s name is being withheld until the remains are identified and the next of kin has been notified.

The fire quickly overtook the two-story home around 8 Monday evening. Multiple fire agencies helped knock down the flames, as plumas national forests service firefighting crews had to put out spot fires from blowing embers.

A statement from the Sheriff’s office said they are saddened by this tragic event and extended their condolences to all involved.
