The Bureau of Land Management’s Applegate field office will begin three week-long controlled burns today in Lassen and Modoc County. Piles of small brush and trees made from fuel reduction projects over the summer will be part of the burn.
The project’s areas consist of over 200 acres, and crews plan to burn 10 to 50 daily. You can expect to see smoke from these areas that will be three miles outside of Madeline in Lassen County, 10 miles south, and 12 miles NE of Alturas in Modoc County. The BLM expects little to no smoke impacts on the nearby communities.
Burning will be conducted only when weather and fuel conditions allow for safe and successful burning and in compliance with burn plans for each project.
