A series of storms are lining up to impact the area into the New Year, potentially bringing impacts of power outages and flooding. These storm systems will impact travel along US 395 as a high wind warning has been issued by the Reno National Weather Service starting late this evening into tomorrow morning ahead of the rain. You can expect wind gusts to top 70mph.
Consider taking down holiday decorations, securing patio furniture, and those trash cans. Power outages are highly likely with the high winds and predicted heavy rainfall. Be prepared with extra food, flashlights with extra batteries, or candles.
If you are heading home over the passes from being out of town for the holiday break, be prepared for difficult driving conditions. A winter weather advisory goes into effect Tuesday morning to Wednesday morning for higher elevations. Snow will hit around 5500 feet. The Sierra passes could see another 10 inches of snow with this storm.
