ALTURAS POLICE DEPARTMENT MARC MULLER CHIEF OF POLICE
On the evening of May 14, 2025, the Alturas Police Department received a report of ongoing sexual abuse of a minor. Officers from the Alturas Police Department worked closely with the Modoc County District Attorney’s Office and the Modoc County Department of Social Services throughout the investigation.
Based on the findings of the investigation, the Alturas Police Department obtained an arrest warrant for Bryant Dennis Reeves, 37, of Alturas, CA. During the afternoon of May 15th, 2025, Reeves was taken into custody pursuant to the warrant, booked into the Modoc County Jail, and held without bail.
On May 20th, 2025, Reeves was arraigned at the Modoc County Superior Court by the Honorable Judge Randal Harr on the following 34 charges:
288.7(a) PC sexual intercourse or sodomy with a child 10 years old or younger
288.7(b) PC (two counts) oral copulation or sexual penetration with a child 10 years or younger 288.5(a) PC (two counts) continuous sexual abuse 261(a)(2) PC (two counts) forcible rape – child victim
289(a)(l) PC (two counts) sexual penetration by a foreign object- victi1n under 14
287(c)(2)(B) PC (two counts) oral copulation of a person under 14 years by force
286(c)(2)(C) PC sodomy by use of force- victim 14 or older
288(b)(l) PC forcible lewd act upon a child 2890) PC (two counts) sexual penetration with a foreign object
With the following enhancements:
288(a) PC (three counts) lewd act upon a child 287(c)(l) (two counts) oral copulation of a person under 14 years and 10 years younger
288.2(a)(l) (two counts) distributing or showing a child or youth pornography
287(b)(l) PC (two counts) oral copulation of a person under 18 years and 10 years younger 289(h) PC (two counts) sexual penetration by foreign object
289(i) PC (two counts) sexual penetration by foreign object- victim under 16
286(b)(l) PC sodomy of a person under 18 286(b)(2) PC sodomy of a person under 16 287(b)(2) PC oral copulation of a person un 16 years and 10 years younger
288(c)(l) PC (three counts) lewd act upon a child
It is further alleged that the crimes alleged involved great violence, great bodily harm, threat of great bodily harm, or other acts disclosing a high degree of cruelty, viciousness, or callousness within the meaning of California Rules of Court Rule 4.421(a)(l).
It is further alleged that child victim 1 and child victim 2 were particularly vulnerable within the meaning of California Rules of Court Rule 4.421(a)(3)
It is further alleged that, pursuant to California Rules of Cou1t Rule 4.421(a)(1), the defendant, Bryant Dennis Reeves took advantage of a position of trust and confidence to commit the offense as alleged in Counts One through Thirty Two.
It is further alleged that the defendant, Bryant Dennis Reeves, engaged in violent conduct that indicates a serious danger to society within the meaning of California Rules of Court Rule 4.42l(b)(l).
Reeves’ attorney argued for his release, which was strongly opposed by Modoc County District Attorney Nina Salarno. The Honorable Judge Randall Harr shared District Attorney Salarno’s concerns and ordered that Reeves be remanded into custody following his arraignment. Reeves is currently being held without bail in the Modoc County Jail.
Following a comprehensive review of the case, additional charges are expected to be filed against Reeves.
