Alturas FD to Suspend Burn Permits as Fire Risk Increases

SHARE NOW

Starting Monday, the Alturas Fire Department will suspend all burn permits as summer heat arrives.

The department says the decision was made due to the increasingly dry conditions and fire hazards. The department reminds you that the burn suspension does not prevent you from using any outdoor cooking methods, including bbqs, hibachis, and smokers. You are also urged to exercise extreme caution in any activity that may cause an accidental fire. You can also help prevent any incidents by keeping your property clear of weeds and rubbish, trimming tree branches, and clearing wood piles.

The fire department expects the burn suspension to be in place through fall until significant rain or snow returns. All burn information will be displayed on the barn at the department for your reference.
