Lassen Sportsman Club dedicates this year’s 35th annual Jr. Fishing Derby to Bill Kauffman.
Kaufmann has long supported the Jr. Fishing Derby, and the club has chosen to hold the derby in his honor.
Mark your calendar for the May 18th annual Junior Fishing Derby, organized by the Lassen Sportsmen’s Club and co-sponsored by the city of Susanville, Lassen County, and the Susanville Indian Rancheria, at Memorial Park.
The derby is for all children between the ages of 2 and 15. Registration starts early, from 6 to 9 a.m. You can also pick up a free breakfast before you head to the river, sponsored by WalMart, and the employees of WalMart will be serving from 6:30 to 8:30 a.m. Then the kids can grab a free lunch, sponsored by Frosty Mill, Susanville Supermarket, Alpine Beverage, Burger King, Diamond Mountain Mini-Mart, and Grillin’ by Greg Sella, which will be served from 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.
The derby prizes for the biggest catch of the day in each age category include bicycles, rods and reels, and tackle boxes. There will also be Sportsmanship Awards for each age group.
Various local businesses and organizations have sponsored the event, contributing prizes, fish plants, and additional funding.
