Smoke will be visible from the Highway 395 corridor and near the communities of Doyle and Ravendale on allowable burning days starting on Tuesday, Feb. 17, during Bureau of Land Management prescribed burning projects in Lassen County.

What: Crews will be burning piles of brush, limbs and small trees that resulted from fuels reduction projects. Smoke production could last an additional day after ignitions are complete.

Where: The projects will cover a total of 32 acres at two locations:

  • Doyle Fire Station: Three acres at the BLM Fire Station, 434-695 Doyle Loop Road, Doyle
  • Ravendale Fire Station: 29 acres at the BLM Fire Station, five miles south of Ravendale along Highway 395

When: Burning will take place only when weather and fuel conditions allow for safe and successful burning. Smoke impacts will be monitored, and ignitions will be stopped if there are any impacts to Highway 395, Doyle, or Ravendale.

Background: BLM crews will conduct the projects in accordance with burn plans that specify allowable conditions and the personnel and equipment required.

BLM fuels reduction projects aim to improve fire resilience in the wildland-urban interface and improve conditions for suppression and structure defense in wildfires.
