A home nearly went up in flames after a flue pipe malfunctioned.

Janesville Fire responded to a home on Honey Girl Lane Sunday around 4 pm to find flames and smoke billowing from the chimney.
Multiple agencies were called in to assist in knocking down the flames. A hole in the roof of the 2-story home had to be cut to vent out the smoke and hot gases.

With the swift response from fire crews, the fire was put out in under 2 hours. No injuries were sustained to the family or firefighters.

Janesville Fire Officials say the home will be uninhabitable for several weeks as the interior sustained heavy smoke and water damage, and repairs to the roof will also need to be completed.

No information on assistance for the family has been announced.
